Prompt: Design a two-sided coin with a duality of zoomed in/out, large/small, before/after, …etc. Carve the design into a wood block to create the mold, cast the pewter in the mold, and polish your finalized coin.

I chose to look at a zoomed in/out view of a begonia leaf. My first side is the leaf, and my second side is a representation of the cellular view of a leaf.

Pewter Coin

Cardboard Tool

Prompt: Create a tool from cardboard, using hot glue and water-activated tape to construct it. Measure and create plans (scaled up/down if making bigger/smaller), breaking down each piece.

I created a hairdryer, scaled up by 2.5x.

Plaster Sculpture

Title: Refraction, 2023

Prompt: Sculpt an abstract design out of a plaster cylinder.

I was inspired by refraction that happens when water catches light, which leads to the creation of the ribbon-like structure I recreated here.

Balsa Wood Sculpture

Prompt: Create an abstract sculpture using balsa wood and super glue.

I was interested in how I could make a stiff material like wood create a round/spiraling shape. I experimented with implied lines and balance with this sculpture. I also used watercolor to see if I could create a stain effect with the wood.
